In April 2021, Dean Maughan caught up with Dales Hanks, from Taylynn Farms in Harvey, to discuss how he managed the nutrition of his 2020 spring-born dairy heifers and steers post-weaning.
In the interview, Dale mentioned he thought, at that time, the steers may have a sale value of $1000-1200/head. As prices kept rising and the early rain came, Dale decided to keep his steers. They were sold in late December 2021 at an average weight of 405kgs and earned him just over $1,800 per head. Dale’s spring 2021 heifers and steers are currently grazing dry pastures and are supplemented with EasyBeef. His well-grown heifers and steers will likely be in demand again.
