AgConnec is a vibrant group of youth, fostering connections and professional development within the Western Australian agricultural industry.
“The aim of AgConnect WA is to engage, connect, represent, educate, listen, advocate and support young people throughout the agricultural industry and communities, in order to address challenges they face, and harness opportunities”. - AgConnect
This initiative is the future for farming in Western Australia, where emerging leaders are developed and fostered. Those involved in the agricultural industry should encourage their colleagues, friends and family to join. With this group, the future of agriculture is in capable hands.
The demographic shift is evident with ageing populations observed across our rural communities. The average age of farmers, as illustrated in the graph below, is now 63. It is important we encourage the younger generation to be involved in this dynamic industry.
Milne AgriGroup is a proud sponsor of AgConnect. This year, we sponsored their successful quiz night in Katanning, which was well attended by all accounts and is scheduled to return next year.
On the 31st May, AgConnect will host a forum in Northam. The event will bring together young professionals to discuss pertinent topics such as the impact of the dry season, mental health, market outlook, livestock nutrition and budgeting. This is a forum that will be worthwhile for most agricultural enterprises to allow their young staff to attend. A day off, even during seeding season, will be a valuable investment in the future of agriculture.
Milne AgriGroup is honoured to be sponsoring this forum. Our Mill Nutritionist, Elizabeth Owens, will be speaking on the day. Elizabeth has over 30 years of experience as an animal nutritionist throughout Australia. After completing an honours degree in Agricultural Science at the University of Western Australia, Elizabeth embarked on a career as an animal nutritionist, providing least cost feed formulations and technical support with leading animal health and premix companies, firstly in WA and then in NSW, Victoria and Qld. Elizabeth further expanded her knowledge base by serving for 17 years as a senior manager within Australia’s largest independent laboratory, providing analytical services and quality solutions to the meat, stockfeed and livestock industries. During this time, Elizabeth’s expertise was called upon to serve in an advisory capacity within RIRDC, Standards Australia, Equestrian Australia and as a lecturer in nutrition at the University of Queensland.
CBH is also a proud sponsor of AgConnect, offering free attendance for students. It’s a day in which every young person in the agricultural sector should participate, as it is contributing to and shaping the future of agriculture.
